Since 1970 I have developed my own types of pickups for both guitars and basses. Producing the right pickup is not simple. To create the right sound, one must have the best magnets, the best suitable copper wire in the right dimensions, the right number of turns, the right physical dimensions, and feedback damping materials. Furthermore, the winding technique is extremely important to get the right sound.

Mørch also matches his pickups to different wood combinations to achieve specific tonal characteristics.

In order to give you an indication of how the pickups actually sound, we have tried to describe the sound of each pickup in a few choice words. It should give you a good idea of the pickup characteristics.

High resolution, fast response, great dynamics and a particularly well-defined attack in the lower presence register. This humbucker oozes character and provides a truly vintage-kind of sound, which remind you of the classic P-Bass, but has slightly better treble response and more punchy dynamics plus fuller sound without loosing out on speed and definition.

When connected to Mørch Active Preamp this pickup has a tremendously wide range and can be easily controlled to suit various amps, speakers and room acoustics without loosing its distinctive character.

This stacked humbucker features a “fast” vintage-kind of sound with lots of personality and character. With slightly rolled-off lows and upper highs plus a typical Alnico-induced “timbre” to the upper midrange and lower presence register, that will remind you of a certain MM-bass pickup. This pickup cuts through even when played softly and in the lower octaves has a certain MM-type compressed sound. If connected via a switch, this pickup can be altered to single-coil mode with higher output, improved dynamics and slightly higher dynamic resolution.

If combined with The Mørch Active Preamp this pickup will provide even greater bandwidth and improved dynamics plus more versatility, since you can open up the treble register and add more warmth and fullness to the lower octaves.

This pickup provides a typical single-coil-like Alnico magnet sound with fullness, great warmth even on the high notes and a slightly Vintage-like, rolled-off treble and a certain tube-like character.

Connected to the Mørch Active Preamp you get an even wider range of timbres and an opportunity to enhance the treble and vintage/tube-like sounds.

This is the favorite among Rock’n Roll bassists: A highly tuned, gutsy P-Bass type with better definition and much more punch than even the very best vintage P-Basses. Still the treble is somewhat rolled-off and the special Alnico V magnets provide a certain Vintage character. A pickup of great versatility on its own – and a favorite among live and studio bassists who want sounds with lots of character.

The sound control can, however, be further improved by connecting this high impedance pickup to The Mørch Active Preamp.

Vintage P-Bass pickup with great clarity and a pretty fast response. Slightly higher output and extended dynamics plus higher resolution in the lower treble register makes this pickup cut through on stage as well as in the studio.

For added fullness and a gutsier low end add The Mørch Active Preamp and get more control on the highs too.
